Royal Arts Academy – the foremost name in film making in Nigeria recently embarked on a mission to empower youths in Akwa Ibom State by exposing them to the rudiments of film making in Nollywood. Aptly titled; ‘Write, Shoot, Edit’ the three day workshop which was organised by the proprietor of the film school, Mrs Emem Isong Misodi was set to develop international standard film-making skills among the youth in order for them to contribute positively to Nollywood.
Apart from the excellent facilitators from the Lagos branch namely award winning scriptwriter; Athony Kehinde Joseph, Director/Acting coach Opeyemi Dada, Emeka Emelobe, Star Actor and Royal Arts Alumni Emem Ufot etc there were also visits from two esteemed commissioners Mr. Charles Udoh Hon. Commissioner for Information and Mr Orman Esin, The Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism who came on separate days to give the much needed pep talk to the youths. Mr Charles Udoh enjoined the youth to ‘take their destiny in their own hands’ by making the right choices and thinking outside the box. He explained that he always wanted to study fine arts but due to parental pressure, was almost dissuaded. He decided to turn this into a challenge and then a motivation to succeed. He eventually studied Fine Arts and then later went into consulting, banking, marketing and then communication arts.
Mr Orman Esin on his part stated that Nollywood would soon relocate to Akwa Ibom as the state had all the facilities to accommodate a film making industry. He enjoined the participants to pay attention to what was being taught and stay tuned for what the state had planned this December season.
The Training ran from Monday, November 4 to Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort and is a precursor for the opening of a branch of the institution in Uyo in January 2020.
