Something beautiful is happening in Accra, Ghana. Several Black Hollywood stars have taken a trip back to the Motherland; Africa as part of the Inaugural Full Circle Festival being organised by the Ghanaian President His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo via the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Business Development and the Office of Diaspora Affairs. This event was coordinated by Marketing expert Bozoma Saint John and actor Boris Kodjoe..
Those present include stars such as Anthony Anderson, Nicole Ari Parker, Ebro Darden, Michael Jai White, A.J Johnson, Anthony Anderson, Rosario Dawson, Omari Hardwick, Real Housewife Of Atlanta – Cynthia Bailey and her partner Mike Radio Host Mike Hill etc. They were joined by Naomi Campbell, Idris Eba and Hip Hop Artiste Jidenna, Best selling authour Luvvie Ajayi, OkayAfrica’s Abiola Oke to name a few. Next year marks 400 years that the first Africans were taken to become slaves in the New World. (The United States and South America). and is going to be an annual festival. This is great. Ever since I was aware of the African American experience, I often wondered why the disconnect? Why African Americans would rather prefer to go to Europe than come to Africa etc and over time I have come to understand that there was deliberate mis-information and misconceptions being sown between about both groups (Africans and those in Diaspora) after history is written by those that are conquerors . There’s still a lot of work to be done but at least this is a first step. I hope the Nigerian government can look into doing something similar too.
