Something beautiful is happening in Accra, Ghana.  Several Black Hollywood stars have taken a trip back to the Motherland; Africa as part of the Inaugural Full Circle Festival being organised by the Ghanaian President His Excellency Nana Akufo-Addo via the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Business Development and the Office of Diaspora Affairs.   This event was coordinated by Marketing expert Bozoma Saint John and actor Boris Kodjoe..

The Point of No Return that led to the Atlantic where the ships lay waiting to take them to the Americas

Next year marks 400 years that the first Africans were taken  to become slaves in the New World. (The United States and South America). and is  going to be an annual festival. This is great. Ever since I was aware of the African American experience, I often wondered why the disconnect? Why African Americans would rather prefer to go to Europe than come to Africa etc and over time I have come to understand that there was deliberate mis-information and misconceptions being sown between about both groups (Africans and those in Diaspora) after history is written by those that are conquerors . There’s still a lot of work to be done but at least this is a first step. I hope the Nigerian government can look into doing something similar too.

Obviously several people were touched by this exoperience and many voiced their feelings via Instagram. Here is one of such:

There are not enough pictures and videos to capture yesterday’s experience and emotion. We were able to tour a piece of the Transatlantic Slave Trade here in the Gold Coast. To stand on the land and in the rooms where your ancestors were captured, tortured, raped, starved and sold into slavery is an out of body experience but very necessary. This return home was not only a reminder of the origin of our enslavement but also more fuel to keep up our resistance. The enslavement of our bodies, minds and spirits is very much still prevalent in present day. Slavery has just “evolved” within incarceration, policing, etc. They are still capturing and killing us. To feel and sit where it began and know we are still fighting was next level devastation but I felt full knowing what my ancestors endured not even knowing or understanding their fate and here we are able to return through the doors of no return carrying their legacies on our backs. Thank you @badassboz and @boriskodjoe for recognizing the importance of this journey and bringing us all together to share in this experience.
